More and more often during colds and other illnesses we resort to the use of various expensive drugs. But sometimes the best remedy is at our fingertips. These are so-called folk remedies. One of them is garlic. The meaning of the procedure lies in the healing substances phytoncides, which naturally penetrate through the ears, and more specifically – through the Eustachian tube, in the nasopharynx and destroy germs, viruses and pathogenic bacteria. About the benefits of garlic in different diseases you will learn in this article.

   From what does the plant help? Everyone has long known that thanks to its composition, garlic is extremely useful. The components that make up garlic are able to: have a bactericidal effect – they fight fungal diseases (how to treat toenail fungus, read here); support the cardiovascular system – prevent the formation of cholesterol, optimize the work of the heart muscle, prevent diseases; have an expectorant effect – liquefy and remove sputum when coughing; have an anti-inflammatory effect – treats inflammation, disinfects the genitourinary tract; strengthen the immune system – supports all the protective functions of the body.

   What will happen if you put it on overnight? Garlic is used in folk recipes, as part of medicines, lotions and tinctures. What happens if you put garlic in the ear overnight? Even a simple piece of garlic, put in the ear, is able to have a therapeutic effect and help cope with such diseases: colds, runny nose, cough, otitis media, diseases of the inner ear. Also the interaction of garlic with various oils (for example, with camphor oil) can cure deafness.

   Why it can help. Garlic is a natural source of essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidant compounds that are necessary for the body to function properly. Garlic is rich in such useful substances as:

vitamins B6 and C;

potassium;

calcium;

phosphorus;

copper;

selenium;

magnesium;

glutamic and asparagic acids;

allicin;

quercetin;

ascorbic acid;

retinol;

iron;

tocopherol.

   It is thanks to its components garlic: strengthens the immune system, reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, reduces the risk of cancer, controls the formation of cholesterol, improves blood circulation, regulates blood pressure.

   Contraindications The use of garlic is highly contraindicated in: kidney and liver disease, epilepsy, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer (how garlic affects the GI tract, read here), pancreatitis, pregnancy. It is also not recommended to use it for long-term treatment. Since it can lead to imbalance of microflora, as well as irritation of the mucosa of the stomach and intestines. It also stimulates the production of bile, so it is worth being extremely careful in the use of garlic in gallstone disease.

   How to treat? It should be remembered that the garlic chosen for treatment should meet the following requirements: it should not have mold, rot, black spots; too old garlic is not suitable, because it does not have enough juice, which has therapeutic properties. Do not forget about precautions: Use only in the absence of inflammation. Because of its high ability to cause allergic reactions in people, it is necessary to be sure to carry out the so-called test, which will show whether you are allergic to garlic. If this procedure is neglected, you can seriously aggravate the disease.

   Against colds A medium-sized garlic clove should be peeled from the peel. Next, cut it into small pieces. In no case, do not grind and do not pass through a garlic press. Cut garlic into equal parts. Take a piece of gauze, bandage or natural cloth 12×15 cm. Fold it in half. In the middle of the cloth put the garlic and twist the harness. Put both harnesses in the ears for 30 minutes.

    Pain Treatment.
  Take a small garlic clove. Peel it from its skin. Make a few holes in the tooth with a needle so that it slightly emits juice. Put it in the sore ear. Do not put it deep into the ear, so that it does not get into the inner ear. Keep at least 30 minutes. The procedure with garlic can relieve pain, having an antimicrobial, antiviral and antibacterial effect.
With olive oil:
Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
Crush 1 clove of garlic and add to the oil.
Leave on low heat for 20 minutes.
Strain the mixture, remove the garlic.
Cool and drop two drops into the ears.

   Possible side effects When choosing garlic for treatment you should be aware of the side effects it can cause: The first thing to remember is that after its use you will smell an unpleasant, pungent garlic odor, which will remain for some time. Also remember that garlic is capable of leaving burns due to improper care. Therefore, cut or grated garlic must be wrapped in cloth, gauze or bandage, so that its juice does not leave a burn. Another side effect is that garlic can cause specific dermatitis.

   Do not forget that it can not be used in the treatment with certain medications, such as aspirin. It also has an irritating effect on the gastric mucosa, so do not take it on an empty stomach. You should also keep in mind the dosage. Overabundance of garlic can lead to headaches, absent-mindedness and impaired concentration. All this happens because of one component that is part of garlic – it is sulfanine hydroxyl ion. It penetrates into the bloodstream and thus has a negative effect on the brain function. You should not start treatment with the use of garlic without prior consultation with a doctor.

   Otherwise, you can aggravate the symptoms of your disease and in the future it will be more difficult to cure them. At the first symptoms of a cold or earache, do not rush to the pharmacy for medicines. Perhaps you have an extra clove of garlic at home. It is he who will benefit you. The main thing is to follow the rules of caution when using it for medicinal purposes. Then you will quickly get rid of the problem that torments you.
